400 raised and lowered dots translating the nutritional proportions of herring into squares.

Herring Squares turns nutritional data into a textile structure. Each of the 400 dots represents 0.25% of the whole: 16% protein, 18% fat, 0% carbohydrates and 66% other content. The dots vary in color and pile height, making the proportions readable through both pattern and touch.

Hand-tufted in 100% New Zealand wool, the rug uses five gray tones. Lighter colors have higher pile, while darker colors are lower, creating a gradual physical transition across the square composition.
