13 shades of red built from four colors and 3,025 individual boxes.

13 Shades of Red is a hand-tufted rug exploring how color can be translated into changes in surface. Four colors are blended into 13 shades, arranged as a 55 × 55 field of boxes.

Each shade has its own pile height. Lighter yarn creates a higher pile and darker yarn a lower one, giving the geometric pattern a physical depth that can be felt as well as seen. The idea came from noticing how a wall pattern continued over the bumps of a freshly filled surface.

Made from 100% New Zealand wool.
